Hey guys, I'm about 20 hours into my life that is now ck2. I just bought Charlemagne and Old Gods (Thanks Gaben!)I chose Laigin because why not, and I notice that my system is tribal. I like a good challenge, but I notice I barely get any money and I feel completely useless. My greatest victory in 2 generations was one single county, and that's with the glorious RNG who gave me a free 400 men to bash the surrounding armies with.Being at the very start, all the Irish Chiefs aren't married nor have kids and all are about 50 years old. I squeaked a male heir and died the same year, so there was a regent until I was of age.Betrothed to a Pict princess, when she turned 16 I find that her FATHER made her his own concubine. So I broke that off and took another Pict princess as a wife. She hates my guts and sleeps with my spymaster (go figure) so I decided to present two debuntes and immediately make them my concubines (tribal actually isn't that bad, wink wink)Long story short, can I have some advice to make my tribal experience for enjoyable and more successful?.
The whole 'noob island' thing shifts when we talk about expansion start dates. However, it's still entirely possible. It does kick up the difficulty a bit, but it still works overall. Borrow money from Jews (and don't be afraid to kick 'em out afterwords.it's remarkably historically accurate).
Use it to make a ship builder, and then get your raid on. It'll be harder at first with a small army but as time goes on you'll get good at running away.Don't be afraid to lose. This has a remarkable Dwarf Fortress thing going for it where losing is fun. You can do quite nicely starting as a Norwegian count.Starting the Charlemange bookmark, you're not immediately set up for success.
However, it's still relatively easy. Norway is largely fragmented, and there are no alliances as you start, so you can quickly grab one of the weakest counties around you.
The 'Become king of Norway' ambition gives you a casus belli you can use against all de jure territories. As soon as the viking age starts, you'll have easy access to all the money and prestige you'd want through ship-borne raids. Especially with the entire isle of Britain split into a load of counties and duchies.
So, I recently followed the advise of a friend and picked up CKII plus many of the DLC in a Steam Sale. I have since played several attempts at the game:. Attempt 1: Starting as Murchad of Dubhlain in 1066. Total abject failure very quickly, no clue how the game works, end up getting wiped out by neighbours. Attempt 2: Starting as Murchad of Mumu in 1066: Things are going pretty well at first. Control half of Ireland, married to a Welsh Princess and they love each other (which is great for extra piety), everyone loves him. Suddenly he's murdered by his idiot son Brian.
Now everyone hates Brian, his councillors won't do anything and his vassals all rebel. In the end he's deposed in favour of his uncle, and now I'm playing as his son, who rules one county in Ireland. But due to a good dynastic match made as Murchad near the beginning he's married to the Duchess of Aquitain! Unfortunately this character dies of Pneumonia when his daughter and heir is only 9 years old, and she then gets disinherited from Aquitain because her pregnant mother gives birth to a son. Unsurprisingly she doesn't make it to adulthood.
Attempt 3: Starting as Murchad of Mumu in 1066: Total disaster. Everyone hates him. Vassal revolts almost immediately. Attempt 4: Starting as Murchad of Mumu in 1066: Things go well. Good marriage to the same Welsh princess from Attempt 2, better management of spy networks catches Brian the Idiot before he kills his father, and allows me to banish him. I then switch to Ultimageniture to disinherit him. Which may have been a mistake, Tanistry might have been a better choice.
Still it's not disastrous. Murchad lives a long and successful life and by the end is King of Mumu, Duke of Conacht, and controls all of Leinster. His youngest son is 9 when he takes the throne, but a good choice of regent keeps him alive and the realm together for the next few years until he's old enough to take control. He turns out to be a very good king.
Marrying a princess of Aragon, conquering the counties needed for Meath. Declaring himself King of Ireland and then uniting the rest of Ireland under his rule. He also marries his sister to the heir to Byzantium and makes good dynastic marriages throughout Europe. As well as putting down multiple rebellions which allow him to slowly grow his Demesne which is unseful because he's reinstituted gavelkind succession.
When he dies of old oge he's King of all of Ireland, King of Mumu, Duke of Leinster, Duke of Meath, and Duke of Deheubarth in Wales (though only controls a portion of it). His eldest son is also competent and highly skilled and quite capable of taking over.So. Now I'm playing as the grandson of my original character on this playthrough, and I rule Ireland.
Crusader Kings 2 Ireland Tips
My younger brother is my vassal and rules the entire coastal region of Wales, and for some reason I have one county on the East coast of Scotland as my vassal. My aunt is the Byzantine empress and we have an alliance.Still, areas for future expansion are looking a bit tricky.
I have a De-Jure claim on another Welsh county, but it's currently ruled by a highly united England, and I'm not sure I want to tangle with them. Scotland is looking a bit more divided, and I'm manufacturing a claim on Argyll, which is still independent, but I'm worried that I'm going to have real trouble expanding any further than that through war. What would people advise? Is there a good way I can stir up enough dissent in my neighbours to encourage them to split into pieces? Would I be better off trying to play the marriage game and arrange to inherit the throne of Scotland (say)? My recommendations are:1.

Aim to marry English or Scottish countesses/duchesses. It's tricky to inherit into a kingdom without pressing a claim in war, but lower titles are much easier. Early in the game, you can probably still inherit lands in other realms, so this weakens your enemies and strengthens you at the same time.2.
Brittany is another potential target you should be looking at. They may have been conquered by England or France by now, but culturally, they're similar to you.3. The HRE and France are better allies than Byzantium. The Byzantines may send sodliers to fight in your wars (the Crusader Kings AI can be a bit silly like that), but the HRe and France are both fairly likely to land armies in Britain to help you out.
I think that the HRE is usually the better ally. I started playing this with an aim to form the Empire of Alba / Brittania. The key to Ireland for me was that my Chancellor forged a claim in another county, then I borrowed some gold, hired some mercs, and had 2 successive wars (the forged claim and then the de jure claim) before my money ran out (a near thing). Then it was a matter of picking off single counties until I could form the Kingdom. With Wales (next character I think), my Chancellor forged a claim on a Duchy / Petty Kingdom, and I was able to press a claim for a vassal. This gave me enough to form Wales, as (I think) Cornwall and Powys became de jure English.England was an odd duck. I married my heir to a Princess who had a claim on Essex (and England). I pressed the ducal claim while there was a boy king, and almost immediately after I won she pressed the claim for the crown. Being the great father-in-law I am, I joined her cause.
(That and the fact that several counties were denuded of troops after I had just besieged them.) Next generation, and I've got 3 crowns and form the Empire.I got about halfway through uniting Scotland, when the Pope called for a Crusade for Byzantium. (It had fallen to Mesopotamia.) I got lucky and won there, moved my capital, and eventually won Jerusalem in another Crusade when all I wanted was to get the Crusader trait for myself and my family.

(I ended up with a slight majority in war contribution due to so many nobles in the fight.) I quit after that because I was so far from my original goal that I had no idea what to do with the game at that point, it was too complicated for me.
IntroductionWhat is This? This is an instructional LP for Crusader Kings 2, Paradox's latest historical strategy game. How to delete skype account on mac. My goal here is to introduce the game to those people who have been curious onlookers for CK2, but were turned off by the complexity. It may also likely prove to be helpful for those who've played EU3 or CK1 before, but want to see what's different about this title.

Hi, I am trying to print a note to PDF (Windows 8, Adobe Acrobat X installed) and everytime it just hangs whilst creating the PDF - I don't have any problems printing to PDF with any other application. I have been using the PDF Creator app since the Print feature was added to the app.
I've done a similar LP before for. So, if you happen to be familiar with that LP, this will probably resemble the Castille playthrough to some degree. What Kind of Game is This?Crusader Kings 2 is ultimately a game about people. Yes, there are wars and conquest, expanding and collapsing kingdoms, and war between religious ideologies, but where most of the complexity lies is in managing your dynasty. You spend your time playing as a character. When your character dies, you play his successor as determined by your inheritance laws, and if your bloodline has run out, it's game over.
You may be leaving behind a powerful kingdom that can stand the test of time, but you're done. Europa Universalis 3 has things like national ideas and decisions that describe the nature of the people and culture that makes up your nation, while Crusader Kings 2 has various personality traits and ambitions attributed to every single character in the game which describes who they are and how they'll get along with you. In Shogun 2: Total War, you might need to decide between specializing a certain province to produce cavalry or archers, while in Crusader Kings 2 you'll need to decide whether or not you want to imprison your second wife because she keeps plotting to murder the son from your first wife who stands to inherit before the children she produced with you.How Will This Work? This will be a screenshot LP wherein I'll describe what I'm doing and try to provide some understandable justification for why I'm making those decisions, and how those decisions could be handled differently.
You may be able to play a game alongside this LP with the same character if you wish, but due to the unpredictable nature of the game, your path may diverge from mine after some time. I don't claim to be an expert on every system in the game, and this isn't going to be about maximizing gold, how to get the highest dynasty score, or how to conquer the world. What I will be able to do is explain how and why I deal with events and problems in the game the way that I do so that you'll understand how things work and be able to form your own strategies.Who are You Playing? One of the universally accepted 'good starting places' is Ireland, and I'll be playing as an Irish Duke so that people can try their hand at playing along with me. Our primary goal will be to form the Kingdom of Ireland. Our secondary goals after the formation of Ireland will be to try our hand at a little expansion into Great Britain and to take part in a crusade. If we're lucky, we may get to put our family's dynasty on the throne of another kingdom as well.
The first update or two will likely introduce the UI and describe what all of the different panels and buttons are for, after which we'll get into actually playing.Additional NotesSince this is meant to be helpful, I'll try to answer gameplay questions that people may have to the best of my ability. I invite other CK2 players to answer questions or give tips in here as well, and I may do a couple of updates to compile community tips or answered questions into a supplementary update so that they won't be lost once this eventually gets archived.Table of Contents.Supplemental Updates.
